Real Self-Confidence Comes From Within
There is nothing more beautiful than a confident woman! You can have perfect face, body, car, house and still not feel confident. It’s easy to focus on everything that’s wrong in the world and even easier to list all the things we don’t like about ourselves.
Remember – confidence and high self-esteem don’t come from false praise or taking the easy way out. Real confidence comes from hard work and from learning how to deal with life’s challenges.
As a Bostonian, the horrific events at the Boston Marathon hit me hard. I knew friends and family members who had been running or watching the race and one of my son’s friends was injured in the blast. It’s been two weeks since the bombings, but the images of the blast and the media frenzy of the ensuing manhunt left so many people feeling scared and vulnerable. I became physically sick as the sadness seemed to get stuck in my body and I felt like I was slogging through the day as if I was walking in mud. I knew I had to change my perspective fast. I simply cannot inspire others when I’m stuck in the ugliness of the world. After a week of non-stop news coverage, I decided to turn off the TV and shifted my focus inward.
I spent an entire afternoon last week at the Naples Botanical Garden. I sat for over an hour in front of a waterfall, just listening and watching the water pour over the rocks. I did a walking meditation on an outdoor labyrinth and could feel the tension melt away with every single step. I found a hammock hanging between two palm trees and just swung back and forth and allowed the rhythm of nature to rock me like a baby.
The remainder of my afternoon was spent in the Butterfly House and it was there, after several hours of letting go, that I finally broke through the layers of sadness and got back in touch with myself. It was then that I started to really notice all the beauty that had been around me all along.
Just outside of the Butterfly House, I came across the strangest looking plant called The Giant Dutchman’s Pipe. I noticed that before it blossoms, it is this weird, funny looking pod. But then it blooms into this gorgeous plant that looks like it’s made of velvet that would be used to make a garment for a King or a Queen. It’s absolutely gorgeous.
That’s what gave me the idea for this video.

Most girls don’t understand the media messages they are being sent that make them feel like they’re not, nor ever will be pretty enough or good enough. What they don’t realize is that, just like that plant, they often haven’t grown into their full expression of their own beauty.
So we all must take time to step away from the negative media messages and go within to find our own inner beauty. It is there that we find our true power. If we don’t take that time, we can become swallowed up in the negative emotions and we will never step fully into all we can be. The world needs all of us to step into the full expression of who we are and no one else can bring the gifts and talents that only you can offer.
Healthy self-esteem comes from doing esteemable acts and that means taking ACTION!

So happy I found your blog. I have a beautiful 9 year old daughter who has the worst self confidence right now.
It’s very hard to see such a gorgeous sensitive spirit feel so low, a little happy girl feel defeated. Reading your blogs and positive messages helps me think of ways to help her cope.
Thanks so much Nikki. Please let me know if you’d like to set up a free Discovery Session call to explore the possibility of mother and daughter confidence coaching.
