A Social Emotional Confidence Curriculum for Middle School Girls
Buried Treasure: A Girl’s Guide to Inner Strength & Confidence
Dear Parents & Girl Empowerment Advocates,
I’m thrilled to announce a brand new empowerment program for middle school girls called, Buried Treasure: A Girl’s Guide to Finding Inner Strength & Confidence.
As you know, the social world for girls has become increasingly stressful and more challenging than ever before as our girls desperately strive to achieve unrealistic standards of perfection and beauty. The rise in peer pressure, competitive conflicts, and unhealthy social media messages are all likely contributors to an epidemic rise in anxiety, mood disorders and low self-esteem.
The Buried Treasure™ curriculum was developed to help girls explore their place in the world, to better experience, express and manage their emotions and to establish positive, healthy relationships with others, and most importantly— with themselves. With a whole new toolkit designed to help girls take back their power, they will no longer sacrifice themselves to the opinion and approval of others.
This six-module course, which can serve as an after-school program or a complete weekend event experience, is designed to help girls explore their place in the world, develop great relationships, expand resiliency and coping strategies, manage stress, build confidence, make healthy choices and understand how to achieve their dreams and goals. Each module will be a fun experiential approach to explore the concepts of my Unshakable Confidence Coaching Program which I have developed over the last twenty years as a teen self-esteem specialist and confidence coach. Based on my own transformational journey, in addition to behavioral and cognitive study in the areas of personal development, health and wellness, emotional literacy, mindfulness, body image, assertiveness, communication, addiction recovery, and spiritual healing.
Group Goals:
- Increase ability to make safe and healthy choices
- Increase self-esteem and self-confidence
- Begin the journey towards self-love and acceptance and to promote healthy body image
- Develop social and emotional skills to deal with peer pressure, bullies and other challenges
- Handle the stress of school and day-to-day life
The Elements of Our Adventure:
Module One – Creating the Treasure Map: You are here! In order to get anywhere in life, you have to know where you’re coming from. Self-knowledge is the key to self-rule. If you don’t know who you are and what you stand for… you’ll fall for anything!
Module Two – Charting the Course: If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll never get there. Understanding the power of intention and how to cooperate with the laws of the universe.
Module Three – Your Inner GPS: Our emotions serve as a signaling device that lets us know when we’re on or off track. Girls will learn how to identify and express their feelings and will also learn specific strategies to self-regulate to get back on track.
Module Four – Asking Directions: Girls will find their voice and learn how to ask for what they want with grace, grit and a little help from their girlfriends.
Module Five – Distress Calls: Examining the roadblocks, detours and setbacks in dealing with people, places and things and learning to differentiate between control, influence and concern.
Module Six – The Treasure Hunt: Thematic recap to anchor the learning. Each clue will be a review of the acquired skills and the trinkets and prizes found will be visual reminders of each lesson.
This course was created and customized for a weekend retreat for the Girl Scouts of GulfCoast FL and appropriate for Juniors and Cadets in grades 4-8. A pilot program for an after-school experience was held at the Village School in Naples, FL.
