One More Trip to the Mall is Not Going to Solve Your Daughter’s Self-Esteem Problem

“The only time my daughter wants to hang out with me is when it involves spending money and most often that means another trip to the mall.” Sound familiar? I've heard this over and over again from so many moms who keep caving in and resorting to the only strategy that seems to work. But does it really? There’s even a book, dedicated to beleaguered parents of teens called, “Get Out of My Life, but First Could You Drive Me & Cheryl to the Mall.!” It may sound amusingly tongue in cheek, but the reality is that this is an all too familiar scenario for most mothers of teen girls. One mother, who’s daughter suffers from body anxiety and who was having full blown panic attacks each morning as she was getting dressed for school, readily admitted, “My current solution of ‘let’s go shopping’ has become an exhausting, monotonous, vicious [...]

Boobs, Jugs, Hooters & Tits: The Quest for the Perfect Breasts

This past weekend, I was in South Beach, Miami attending Mama Gena’s Worldwide Sister Goddess Weekend. I felt like I was magnetically pulled there. I somehow found myself on Mama Gena’s website back in July and saw the blurb about the weekend. I clicked the link and signed up without a moment’s hesitation - not knowing really anything about it nor anyone who would be there. I drove across Florida with butterflies in my stomach, feeling this intense resistance going on inside of me - knowing that I had been divinely called here and feeling so much fear at the exact same time. I have never experienced anything like it before in my life. Hundreds of bold, sexy, adventurous, outrageous women all committed to living a life unleashed and out loud. These chicks - young and old, tall and short, thin and chubby - every one of them totally owned [...]

Top Ten Reasons to Hire a Life Coach for Your Daughter

1. Girls need someone to talk to besides their parents and friends. As girls maneuver their way through relationships, their BFF one day can very often become their Frenemy the next. Having a coach who not only listens, but helps girls figure out their own next, best move is incredibly empowering and reassuring. 2. Every girl wants to be attractive and a good coach will help her understand that like a magnet, she can attract whatever it is that she really wants. But girls often confuse the outside external stuff with the inner force of attraction. It always comes from within. 3. Girls are often afraid to speak up and they care way too much about what everyone else thinks. Not only will a good coach help her to correctly identify her feelings and emotions, but will also help her find her voice and speak her truth about what she [...]

Girls Can Rule the World

Hassan teaches the girls where their power comes from: positive thoughts. “There are girls in this room who feel like they’re not good enough,” Hassan began. “Some are starving themselves. Some would do anything to fit in.” At this event, Hassan inspired the audience, teaching them where their power comes from—not from putting others down to build yourself up, and not from the media, which sexualizes women and portrays an unattainable image of perfection. According to Hassan, 85 percent of women and girls have felt worse about themselves after looking at a fashion magazine and 86 percent of self-talk (thoughts) is negative. This happens because, to their detriment, many women and girls today tend to seek their worthiness and confidence from outside forces. As a healthier model, Hassan teaches girls to get their power from within, instead of from the media, by choosing love over fear. She said, “Thoughts become [...]

Jess Weiner & The E.F. Hutton Effect: When You Talk Is Anyone Listening?

E. F. Hutton & Co. was a stock brokerage company founded in 1904 and was best known for its commercials in the 1970s and 1980s based on the phrase, "When E. F. Hutton talks, people listen." I’m sure every blogger can relate to the scene from the movie Julie & Julia when Julie, in the early stages of writing her blog asks “Is anyone listening?” Social media has changed the way we communicate and it sometimes feels like everyone is competing for air time - tweeting, posting and sharing our lives, thoughts, accomplishments and viewpoints with the world. Last week, this played out in a big way when Jess Weiner’s article ran in Glamour Magazine. The title alone was provocative enough to cause quite a stir “Jess Weiner's Weight Struggle: 'Loving My Body Almost Killed Me,’” and the HAES (Health At Every Size), ED (Eating Disorders) and Positive Body Image [...]

Dr. Oz Agrees – Hypnosis for Weight Loss

Cabin fever, winter blues, constant cravings and comfort food. It’s that time of year when many of us are completely off track and get caught in a vicious cycle of self-sabotage. Whether you are overweight or simply carrying a few extra pounds of winter blubber, hypnosis can help you stop overeating, stop sabotaging yourself and lose weight. On Monday, Dr. Oz had a show on Hypnosis for Weight Loss. The timing was perfect as this coming Sunday, February 13th, I am offering a 2 hour workshop called Body Love: Hypnosis for Weight Loss! Dr. Oz said that he first learned of the profound powers of hypnosis in medical school. He said “Hypnosis unlocks your subconscious power to control the demons that make you overeat.” Dr. Paul McKenna, PhD and hypnotist was Dr. Oz’s guest and hypnotized the entire audience. He said “Craving is a learned behavior. If you’ve learned it, [...]

BODY LOVE: Hypnosis for Weight Loss ~ Transformational Breakthrough Program

The definition of insanity, as popularized in the halls and church basements of 12 Step Recovery Programs, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! If you’re one of the millions of Americans who has once again put “Lose Weight” on this year’s resolution list, you’re about to discover the secret to keeping the weight off - both you and your list once and for all. The reason most diets and resolutions fail is because they focus on the effect rather than the cause. The Universal Law of Cause and Effect stated in its simplest form is “thoughts become things.” Your body as it is today (the effect) is the result of yesterday’s thoughts (the cause). Try as we might to change the effect, the results if any, will be minimal and the energy and effort required maintain those results is exhausting. Hypnosis works because [...]

Weighing In on HUGE

Have you seen ABC Family’s latest summer blockbuster, HUGE? It’s the story of a group of teens at a weight loss camp, otherwise known as fat camp. When I first heard about it, I was intrigued, skeptical and disgusted all at the same time. Another show focusing on what is wrong with teens today and yet another blatant example of the media exploiting social issues to their advantage. Due to a regular Monday night commitment, I haven’t been home to watch it, but as I said, I was intrigued, so I had been taping it. Last week I sat down to a HUGE marathon and have to say, not only was I pleasantly surprised, I actually loved it. HUGE is well written and the characters are engaging, interesting and so lovable - even though none of them would ever claim that to be true. There are so many layers [...]

Girls Helping Girls

You don’t have to look very far to get a glimpse of what’s wrong with girls today. Pick up any magazine, peruse your local bookstore, google “teen girls” or turn on the television and view the vast array of in-your-face perspectives of the dark side of growing up girl in today’s image-obsessed culture. Shows, magazines and even the very self-help experts themselves, portrayed as counter-culture saviors to assist today’s young women maneuver their way through the pitfalls of adolescence, all focus more on the problem and what’s wrong vs. the solution and what’s right with girls today. All of this can be very overwhelming and there are days that I feel like throwing my hands up in the air and asking “What’s the use?” Last week, like an answered prayer, I got the shift in perspective I had been asking for and I was filled up with hope watching two [...]
